About Seiko
The Seiko story began in Tokyo, Japan in 1881 when a man named Kintaro Hattori first opened the doors of his clock and watchmaking shop, Seikosha. About a decade later he started a factory where workers created clocks and pocket watches. In 1913, the firm produced the first Japanese wrist watch which was named the Laurel. In the 1920s the firm shortened its brand name from Seikosha to the name it bears today, Seiko. During the following decades Seiko continued to add new timepieces to its product line.
In 1969, Seiko brought the first quartz watch to the market, a technology that would permanently alter the watch market as droves of people turned to watches that they did not have to wind each day. Seiko went on to acquire and launch additional brands, like Pulsar, and to introduce innovative products like the first TV watch and kinetic watches that don't require batteries. Today Seiko continues to be a popular name in watches.
About Lumbrite
Lumbrite, or lumibrite, is a luminous material that is used to make the dials of many Seiko watches. Watch dials made with lumbrite hands and markers will glow, which makes it easy to read a Seiko watch in the dark without having to fumble for a tiny button on the side of the watch or flick on a lamp - very convenient. Lumbrite is a newer material that lasts longer and is brighter than the luminous materials previously used in watchmaking. Moreover, it does not contain radioactive materials, making it much safer than the older products.
Types of Seiko Watches with Lumbrite Dial
Seiko produces several different kinds of watches with the convenient lumbrite dial. There are styles for both men and women, each with different features to appeal to many different kinds of buyers with their particular interests and lifestyles. There are leather bands, stainless steel bands, gold tone, silver tone, dress watches, sport watches, dive watches, chronographs and more.
Seiko currently has three primary collections of watches: Sportura, Coutura and Arctura. The Sportura line features rugged, stainless steel men's sports watches made with kinetic and alarm chronograph technologies as well as analog-digital styles. As its name suggests, the Coutura line is made up of elegant watches designed to complement a more dressed up look. Coutura watches boast kinetic technology, which will never need a battery change, as well as chronograph watches. Arctura watches make an incredible style statement. These attractive timepieces are available with convenient kinetic technology and chronograph styles as well.
