About Rolex
Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law, Alfred Davis, founded a watch company in London called Wilsdorf and Davis. At that time, they imported Hermann Aegler's Swiss movements, placed them in their own timepiece casing and manufactured a wristwatch and wristlet. These early timepieces were engraved with W&D for the company brand.
In 1908, Wilsdorf and Davis decided to take a different focus for the company and timepieces. They registered the trademark name Rolex and opened an office in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. By 1915, the company name was changed to Rolex. In 1919, the company moved to Geneva, Switzerland and officially became the Rolex Watch Company.
Over the years, Rolex became a market leader in luxury watches. Some of the innovations include:
- First waterproof watch case
- First watch with a date on the dial
- First watch company to earn chronometer certification
- First watch to feature two time zones
Rolex Watch Lines
Rolex has three watch lines:
- Oyster Perpetual: The Oyster Perpetual is most famous for being the type of watch James Bond wore. The classic line comes in stainless steel and yellow gold. Models include the Air King, Date and Datejust. The watches are water resistant to 100 meters and self-winding.
- Oyster Professional: The Rolex Professional line contains sporty models with steel or leather bands. The Submariner, Sea-Dweller, Milgauss, GMT-Master, Yacht Master, Explorer II and Daytona are popular models. The watches have a higher level of water resistance than the Oyster Perpetual line. The level of water resistance varies by model.
- Cellini: The Cellini line contains more formal watches than the other two ranges. Many beautiful gold and sapphire crystal watches with exquisite craftsmanship are available in the range. Models include Cellini quartz, Cellinium, Danaos, Cestello and Prince.
General Price Range
Rolex watches are fine watches and generally range in cost between $3,000 to over $30,000. This is due to the craftsmanship, materials and brand power of Rolex watches.

How to Find Rolex Watch Pricing Information
The Rolex website does not recommend purchasing Rolex watches online. They prefer that people do business with authorized dealers in local locations in order to get a guaranteed authentic Rolex watch. The prices from authorized dealers are generally more expensive than many websites offering discounts. Visit the official Rolex website to get a list of authorized dealers in your state. Request a price list from the dealers.
You can also shop around at local jewelry stores and online to find the best deal on Rolex watches. You will be able to rely more on the authenticity of a Rolex if purchased from a local reputable fine jeweler than an unknown online vendor.
Rolex watch pricing information is a helpful guide to help you plan your future purchase. If you decide to invest in a Rolex, rest assured that it is a quality watch. With proper care, a Rolex watch should last a lifetime and for generations to come.
