History of Omega

The Omega story began in a Swiss town called La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1848 Louis Brandt, then only 23 years old, began purchasing watch components locally and assembling watches, which he then sold around Europe. From this small beginning Brandt managed to build a thriving company, which passed on to his sons upon his death in 1879. Brandt's two sons made significant changes to the business. They changed the name of the company to Omega and moved its headquarters to the city of Bienne. With the Brandt sons at the helm, the company began manufacturing watch parts as well as assembling them. The company changed hands once again in 1903 when both of Brandt's sons died, this time passing to Louis Brandt's four grandsons. In 1930 the firm merged with another Swiss watchmaker, Tissot, and the combined company operated under the name SSIH. The company continued to grow and in 1983 merged with the watchmaker ASUAG to become ASUAG-SSIH. Two years later a group of private investors took over ASUAG-SSIH and renamed it SMH, which was later changed to The Swatch Group.

In the early days Omega produced popular pocket watches and introduced their first wristwatch in 1900. Over the years the Omega watch's reputation for quality and precision earned several honors. To name a couple, Omega watches were named the official timekeepers of over 20 Olympics and Omega's Speedmaster was the first watch on the moon.

De Ville Watches

Omega introduced their revolutionary new co-axial escapement in the De Ville line in 1999. This design keeps precise time without the need of lubrication, which can reduce the watch's durability. Cases are available in steel, stainless steel and gold with dials in colors like brown, silver, champagne, white mother of pearl and black mother of pearl as well as diamonds. The De Ville Prestige Quartz Small line uses a quartz movement to keep time. Prestige Quartz Small watches are water resistant down to 100 feet. De Ville Co-axial Automatic watches are self-winding chronometers, a type of watch that has been subjected to rigorous tests. These watches use the co-axial escapement technology and are water resistant down to as much as 330 feet, depending on the model. Prestige Automatic Watches also have self winding movements.

Constellation Omega Watches for Women

Omega offers a variety of stylish ladies' watches in the Constellation collection, with designs ranging from classic to delicate and feminine.
