Why Omega Watches are Special
Where do I begin? Omega watches have been involved with sports and space exploration for years, and they show no sign of stopping. In 1965, the Omega Speedmaster became “flight-qualified” for NASA when it became the only watch to withstand all of their severe tests and conditions. As a result of this, in 1969, the Speedmaster was worn on the Apollo 11 mission and became the first, and only, watch to be worn on the moon. As if that weren’t enough, the Speedmaster was also worn by both American astronaut Tom Stafford and Russian cosmonaut Alexei Leonov on the famous Apollo-Soyuz space rendezvouz. Since then, the Speedmaster became the official watch for all of Russia’s manned space missions.
In 1998, Omega designed the Speedmaster X-33 to NASA’s strict qualifications, and has since become the official watch of the International Space Station, as well as standard equipment for all astronauts and cosmonauts.
