Fossil Watches for Ladies

From LoveToKnow Watches

For over twenty years Fossil watches for ladies have been winning fans. More than just a way to keep track of time, Fossil watches are fashionable, eye-catching accessories. With chic, unusual designs, the women's line is where Fossil's sense of style really shines.

Fossil, Inc.

Fossil first appeared on the scene in 1984. The Texas-based company was started by two brothers, Tom and Kosta Kartsotis, who felt that most of the watches on the market were functional timepieces with little thought given to fashion trends. They sought to create fun, stylish watches that were well-made, yet affordable. Early on they introduced a retro, fifties style that was a big hit with consumers, and before long, the company was successful. In the early 90s, the company was listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange.

Fossil has continued to look for new opportunities for growth. While Fossil is still best known for its watches, over the years the company has expanded its product line to include belts, sunglasses, wallets and other small leather goods. Fossil also has licensing agreements with top fashion labels like DKNY, Emporio Armani and Marc Jacobs. In the mid 90s, the company began opening outlet stores and accessories shops, and in 2000 it launched a clothing line. In 2002 Fossil launched the ABACUS line, with technological products like Person Digital Assistants (PDAs) that are worn on the wrist like watches.

Designer Watches

The company teamed up with two famous designers to create a line of designer Fossil watches for ladies. French designer Philippe Starck is known for his extraordinary designs for ordinary household items like lamps, door handles and telephones. He has also designed hotel interiors, motorcycles, furniture and buildings, all with his distinctive sleek, modern style. The watches he designed for Fossil are no exception. With fun colors and innovative designs, including watches with the circuitry contained in the strap, Fossil watches for ladies designed by Philippe Starck stand out in a crowd.

The contemporary designs of architect Frank Gehry's buildings have obviously inspired his Fossil watch designs. Famed for postmodernist buildings like the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, Gehry designed a line of watches characterized by clean lines and a stylish look.

Metal Watches

Fossil's Metal line is made up of watches with metal bands, sometimes combined with other materials such as wood or enamel. They are available in four different styles: casual, dress, glitz and motion dial. The trendy watches in the casual group of metal watches come in colors like green and red and feature fun designs, like charm bracelet watches. Dress watches have a sophisticated look, just right for a night on the town. The glitz watches feature glamorous details like rhinestone studded bands and pink dials. Some motion dial watches have animated images on the dials while others offer the wearer the ability to switch between two different dial patterns.

Strap Watches

The Strap line of Fossil watches for ladies is made up of watches with leather or plastic bands. Like the Metal line, Strap watches are available in casual, dress and motion dial styles. In addition, the line includes a digital style, featuring watches with digital faces.

Other Fossil Watches for Ladies

In addition to the Metal and Strap lines, Fossil has a number of specialty items. Anyone who is unable to choose the perfect watch from among the company's seeming endless array of choices can design a watch through the company's website, Fossil.com. Simply choose a dial and a strap and the site will show what the finished watch will look like. For sports lovers, Fossil offers a line of NFL and NCAA watch styles for ladies. Finally, in the Collectibles category, women will find watches featuring favorite characters and films, like Supergirl and Star Wars.
