Citizen Watch Bands
From LoveToKnow Watches
Citizen watch bands are one of the components that make the watch brand a quality product. The company produces watch bands in many different styles. The bands are noted for durability and comfort.
About Citizen Watch Company
Citizen Watch Company is based in Tokyo, Japan. The company began as the Shokosha Watch Research Institute in 1918. In 1930, the founders changed the name to Citizen Watch Company because the word citizen created a kinship or citizenship among people all over the world.
Today, Citizen Watch Company is one of the world's largest watch manufacturers. Notable Citizen watch lines include the Eco-Drive solar powered watches and the Skyhawk A-T atomic timekeeping watches.
Types of Citizen Watch Bands
Citizen watch band styles vary by the line. Watch band types include:
- Metal stretching band: Many different Citizen watches, ranging from basic to special feature versions, have a stretching metal band in either sold or two-toned stainless steel. Each line features some metal watch bands. Metal watch bands are appropriate for feminine watches, sports watches, diving watches and masculine dress watches.
- Metal bracelet: Watch bracelets are available in the a number of different Citizen lines, including Echo-Drive. Bracelets come in styles such as metal links and bangles in single or two-toned metal. Metal choices include stainless steel in grey or gold-toned.
- Leather: Both classic style watches and many of the modern ones with extra features have versions with leather bands. Citizen Geniune and Echo-Drive watches also include leather wrist band versions. Plain leather and patterned leather bands come in many different colors.
- Rubber: Many of the sports and diving watches, such as select Citizen Aqualand pieces, have rubber wrist bands.
Clasps come in the following styles:
- Tang clasp: A tang clasp is a buckle that has a hook that fits into adjustable holes in a watch band. This clasp is the most popular leather watch strap fastener.
- Folding clasp: A folding clasp or deployment clasp folds under the watch band to fasten the straps. The fastener is still visible.
- Hidden clasp: The clasp folds discreetly under the watch strap and blends in with the jewelry. When fastened, the clasp is not visible.
- Jewelry clasp: A watch with a jewelry clasp has a hook, suspended from a hinge, that folds over a thin bar to fasten the band.
Adaptable Deployment Clasp
Citizen offers a special deployment clasp with a push button that can be used on any of their watch bands. The deployment clasp with a push button allows people to add the convenient folding clasp feature to traditional leather tang clasps. The feature blends in seamlessly with leather bands.
Recognizing a Real Citizen Watch Strap
When a Citizen watch band wears out, it is important to replace it with an authentic Citizen strap to maintain the original look of the watch. Yet, sometimes fake Citizen bands look very similar to the real ones. There are ways to recognize a true Citizen band. Authentic Citizen bands come with model numbers that match a 10 digit number located on the back of each watch. If a seller cannot produce a band with a model number that matches the 10 digit number for the watch, it is most likely a replica.
Look for sellers that are authorized dealers of Citizen watch products. Examine the band carefully to make sure that it matches your original band in details such as the location of the Citizen name, font of type and any design elements.
Where to Find Replacement Watch Bands
Many online retailers sell Citizen replacement watch bands. The following websites sell Citizen bands:
- Watch Bands Online: The site offers a large selection of Citizen sports bands.
- Watch Bands: Watch Bands sells leather and metal replacement bands for several different Citizen watch lines.
- Right Time: Right Time provides a number of Citizen diver band replacements in rubber and metal.
A Citizen watch can last for a lifetime and may never need a replacement band. However, if the band does wear out or break, it is usually easy to find a replacement due to Citizen's popularity. Replacement bands can make an old watch looks as good as new.
