LoveToKnow articles focus on important aspects of finding and buying watches, which watches offer which features and where to go online or in your own hometown to find them.
Where to Buy
Many merchants sell fine designer watches that range in price from as low as $80 all the way up to the hundreds of thousands. What you want is out there; the question is where to find it at a fair cost. Once you have located a watch that works for your budget, make sure you purchase it from a reliable source that will be there for you if the watch breaks or needs to be serviced.
Online Merchants and Local Watch Dealers
Many consumers are still leery of Web merchants. It is true that there are many dealers of diamond watches and other timepieces, including numerous dealers of replica watches, who have been less than honest with their customers. However, to judge an entire commmunity of watch sellers by a few is unfair. Internet commmerce has grown tremendously over the past several years. As long as you know what to do to protect yourself as a buyer, purchasing a watch online will not pose an issue.
Do:
- Cross reference a watch seller's Web site and name with the Better Business Bureau if possible.
- Ask about warranties, service, parts and labor coverage.
- Use Web vendors who are named elsewhere on the Web, for example, under a "best of" Website or on a site that lists the vendor as one of several who are reputable.
- Ensure the merchant is a licensed dealer.
Don't
- Take chances with what appears to be a "good" watch.
- Shop where there is no return policy and/or no "money back" offer.
- Accept shoddy craftsmanship just because it is a replica watch.
- Take any vendor's words for it -- look around and get it in writing.
