History of Burberry
In 1856 a draper's apprentice, 21-year-old Thomas Burberry, opened his own store in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. Commitment to quality meshed with style helped the new line thrive by 1870. The little shop grew and was soon called an "emporium". It was in 1880 that Thomas Burberry created a new fabric that was weatherproof and tear-proof as well as breathable. This fabric was called Gabardine. The business had truly become a family enterprise and the name was changed to Burberry & Sons. They moved to a new, larger building on the west end of London.
In 1895, Burberry created the Tielocken, which was the beginning of a new style—the trench coat. This coat was worn by British officers during the Boer War. By 1914 the War Office had asked Burberry to adapt the Tielocken to meet new combat demands. Burberry added "D" rings and epaulettes and the traditional trench coat came into being.
Both Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and His Royal Highness Prince Charles have given Burberry Royal Warrants.
Burberry Trademark
In 1901 the Burberry trademark made its first appearance. An equestrian knight flying a banner with the word "Prorsum", which means "forwards" in Latin. More recently, the company has used Kate Moss to revamp their image a bit and to advertise their new look and lines.

A ruby colored cabochon crown highlights the champagne dial and ten charms are scattered around the rest of the bracelet representing various Burberry and British icons. The woven leather bracelet comes in brown or white and features six charms and the watch. The charms and watch are similar to the silver or gold-plated, but the woven leather band creates a more casual look for everyday wear and less charms adds to the informal appeal.
